Udaipur 31.1 - 3.2.2004

Day 11: Pushkar - Udaipur

I bought bus ticket to Udaipur yesterday, but wasn`t quite sure what to expect, because I`ve seen some sorry looking busses here. Turns out my bus isn`t that bad, but god damn, do you have to play that hindupop so fucking loud!? Eight hours and my ears were bleeding. I was ready to swear I`ll never ride a bus again. It was pretty late when I arrived in Udaipur so I had some problems founding a cheap place to stay, but finally found one. Now all I need is a beer.

Day 12: Udaipur

Visited Jagdis mandir in a morning before heading to city palace. That was much nicer place than in Jaipur which was actually total rip-off. In the evening I went looking for a place to have a couple of beers, but it`s not that easy here in Rajasthan: Bars seem to be as rare as virgins in free-love communes.

Day 13: Udaipur

It gets pretty cold at night so I went shopping for a sweater today. Lets just say I`m not a big fan of Indian clothes, so it took me a while to found something I could wear. And then to the reason I came to Udaipur: Floating palace, made famous by Bond movie Octopussy. It is a luxury hotel now and open only to the guests so I had to settle for a boatride around it. Later in evening I went to see Octopussy in one of the restaurants that are showing it every night. Also found that long awaited beer, hallelujah!

Day 14: Udaipur - Mumbai

I had couple hours to kill before my bus to Mumbai left, so I went people watching in Jagdish mandir. Traffic here is just insane: survival of the fittest, some might say. There isn`t direct trains from Udaipur to Mumbai, so I had to buy a ticket to sleeperbus. Quite a bumpy 16 hour ride. I wonder how hard it is to make smooth tarmac?
