Serbia & Montenegro 31.7 - 2.8 2005

Day 55: Sofia - Belgrad

My train wasn`t leaving untill evening, so I had time to visit museum of national history. Combining this place and Varnas museum, I learned more about Bulgaria than I did in nine years in school. Well, to be quite honest, I did notice some self-censorship during years 1940-45, while Bulgaria was ally in war with Germany. Train to Belgarad left 90 minutes late and just as I fell a sleep, boarder officials woke me up. Didn`t get much sleep after that.

Day 56: Belgrad

We arrived four hours behind schedule and after leaving my backpack to hostel I returned to trainstation to get ticket from Novi Sad to Budapest, but women at the counter refused to sell me one. She just kept saying Belgrad-Budapest, Belgrad-Budapest, so I thought what the hell, let`s just skip Novi Sad and head straight to Hungary. And like that wasn`t enough, I noticed later that this bitch short-changed me. in afternoon, visited Kalemegda fort and just walked around city. It`s hard to believe, that only six years ago this country was in war.

Day 57: Belgrad

I went to see local ministry of the Interior that got bombed pretty badly during war and wasn`t repaired yet. Quite a sight. After that visited in Serbias war museum which painted a slightly different picture about the war. It was a good reminder that there is always two sides to every story, and that it is usually winners who get to write history. Today I realized, that I only have two weeks left before I have to be in Berlin! Time really flies when you`re having fun.
