Latvia 7.6 - 12.6 2005

Day 1: Oulu - Tampere

I was postponing my trip for a week because Black Label Society was coming to Tampere, and since I`ve been fan for a long time, I wanted to see them. And I also got cheap tickets from Ryanair for tomorrow, so I was all set. Gig itself was worth waiting. Zakk Wylde rocked Pakkahuone club and I definitely got my money`s worth.

Day 2: Tampere - Riga

Although I`ve been to Tampere couple times before, I never actually seen the town itself. So today I did the whole tourist scene, including Lenin museum. Flight to Riga in a evening was bit of a bumpyride, but I arrived on one piece. I had made reservation for a hostel, but I couldn`t find the damn place. It was getting late, so I headed for a hostel I stayed on my previous trip and luckily they had beds available.

Day 3: Riga

Bought busticket to Warsaw before I headed looking for that hostel I missed last night. In daylight I found it pretty easily and moved my stuff in there. After all it was a bit cheaper and I knew that I didn`t have too much money to start with. Toured around new Riga and visited jews in Latvia museum in a afternoon. That place was supposed to be free, but old babushka on the door was "collecting" donations and I involuntary gave her some coins.

Day 4: Riga

After breakfast, went belt shopping in Riga`s central market and bought cheapest leatherbelt I could find, but still ended up paying four euros for it. Although it`s not my first time in Riga, I`ve only seen tourist side of this place, so I hopped in a tram and headed for little reality check tour to soviet-era suburbs. I was expecting much worst looking buildings, but those weren`t so bad...

Day 5: Riga - Sigulda - Riga

I`ve pretty much seen Riga by now, so I decided to take a daytrip to Sigulda and do some hiking. Some called Sigulda alps of Latvia, but it`s more of a valley that makes surrounding hills look higher, than it is a mountain. Anyhow, there is lot`s of hiking trails and couple caves on your way to semi-interesting Turaida castle, which you can visit

Day 6: Riga - Warsaw

Couple days earlier I saw a poster which said there is Anton Corbjin exhibit Riga and I went looking for that place in a morning. His photo`s were brilliant as usual, but that exhibit wasn`t quite as comprehensive as the one I saw in Stockholm few years ago. My bus to Warsaw departed a bit late, but as soon as I got into bus and found my seat, I fell asleep.
