Hungary & Slovakia 3.8 - 7.8 2005

Day 58: Belgrad - Budapest

When do I learn, that if you have to travel next day, don`t get wasted on night before? And like a final punishment restaurant car didn`t accept forints and I didn`t have any serbian money left. I was pretty dehydrated when we got to Budapest. It did rain all evening so I didn`t do much except had supper at nearby chinese fastfood joint.

Day 59: Budapest

I was staying in student dormitory which doubled as hostel during summer and at 2AM some musically challenged individuals decided to have impromptu jamsession. Needless to say I didn`get much sleep that night. After breakfast I choosed to stay at Buda`s side for today and save Pest for tomorrow. Just when I arrived to Buda castle it started to drizzle and as soon as I got to old town, rain really started pouring down. I didn`t have much choice but to return to my hostel and wait for that rain to stop.

Day 60:Budapest

It rained all night, but around nine it stopped, so I headed to see all sights in Pest. Did quick stop at Vajdahunyads castle before going to heroes square. Very pompous indeed. I tried to visit house of terror - museum which displays "evildeeds" of hungarian secret police during communist years among other things, but once again women at the counter refused to sell me student ticket because I only had finnish studentcard. So they lost a customer. Popped in to St. Stephens basilika which had interesting relic: Mummified hand. And some people actually paid good money to see that!

Day 61: Budapest - Bratislava

It rained three days in a row, but of course, now that I was leaving Hungary, weather was sunny and birds were singing. Train to Bratislava was smooth and after l dropped my backpack to hostel I went out to get something to eat. Hungary was so expensive, that all I could afford was some crappy fast food. Now that I was back in Slovakia I went straight to decent restaurant and had three course meal. And few dark lagers as well...

Day 62: Bratislava

Headed to old town in a morning and spend couple hours just walking around it. Bratislava castle was a slight disappointment, but at least they didn`t charge admission. Castle had good views over Bratislava, though. Later in a evening I familiarize myself with traditional slovak pivnica in a form of pub grub and few pints... How come they can`t brew a dark beer like this in Finland?
