Oulu - Tartu 3.8 - 7.8.03

Day 1: Oulu - Helsinki

Did some last minute packing before my train left in a afternoon. Had a ticket which allowed me to take any train I wanted without extra fees, so I chose the most "luxorious" of them all: Pendolino. Pretty smooth ride and I was in Helsinki around 11 PM. Crashed in to my little brothers place for a night.

Day 2: Helsinki - Tallinn

Loitered in bed (or on matress, actually) until nine before heading to bank and to book a boat to Tallinn. Played around with idea of taking a helicopter, but that would have been a bit over my budget. I choose a hydrofoil instead. I managed to miss my first boarding, but eventually got to Tallinn. Took a bus to my hostel, which was in nasty looking suburb of Tallinn around 5 km from the city. I was pretty tired, so I just had one beer and something to eat in old town before returning to hostel.

Day 3: Tallinn

After a quick shower in a morning I headed to old town. I`ve been to Tallinn couple times before, but they`ve been typical Finnish "let`s get drunk and act like pigs" kind of things, so I never actually seen Toompea when sober?! Both Toompea and lower town were nice but they were ridiculously expensive places. Visited in tower museum before I had supper and went back to my hostel.

Day 4: Tallinn - Tartu

Had breakfast before I headed for Tallinn`s central bus station. Lucky for me, there was one bus just about leave to Tartu, so I hopped in and of we go. Two and half hours later I was in Tartu. I walked around 2 km to get to my hostel. Just when I got there it started to rain cats and dogs, so I decited to take a nap before going back to the city. Rain had stopped when I woke up, so I went looking for to get something to eat, but I barely made it to main square when it started to rain again, so went back to hostel.

Day 5: Tartu

Went to local turist office to ask if there is direct trains to Sigulda, but found out that only connection to Latvia was one daily bus to Riga. Got myself a ticket for tomorrow before going to see old town and other sights of Tartu. Tried to visit local (ex-) KGB headquarters, but it was closed.
