Czech Republic 8.8 - 13.8 2005

Day 63: Bratislava - Brno

I arrived in Brno before noon, so after finding a place to stay I had plenty of time see all local sights. I started with Cathedral of SS.Peter&Paul, but to be quite honest I`ve seen too many churches on this trip. Spilberk castle was closed so I just walked around the city rest of the day.

Day 64: Brno - Cesky Krumlov

Took 9 AM bus to Cesky Krumlov but that ride took a while cause we stopped in every village that had more than two houses. Everyone was telling me how nice Cesky Krumlov is, but no words made justice to this place. Definitely THE most picturesque small town I`ve ever seen! But there is downside to it. Small streets are so packed with tourists that you can hardly fit in.

Day 65: Cesky Krumlov

Bridge that leads to Cesky castle was so crowded it took me 2 minutes to walk that 20 metres. Finally made it to top of that hill and I was rewarded with beautiful view over town. I was planning on taking a tour in local Eggenberg brewery, but unfortunately they only did one guided tour a day and I missed that by half an hour. Just walked around town for rest of the day, taking it all in.

Day 66: Cesky Krumlov

While having breakfast I met few people who were going rafting on Vltava river today and they asked me to come along. It was a bit over my budget, but how often you get a change like that? There was couple lame rapids on our way out of Cesky, but after that it was quite relaxing voyage. Distance from Cesky to Zlaka Koruna was only 15 km, but it took us five hours cause we stopped for couple beers along the way.

Day 67: Cesky Krumlov - Ceske Budojevice - Prague

It was time to move along to one of the most anticipated destinations on this trip: Budejovice Budvar brewery in Ceske Budojevice. Climax of our tour was, of course, when we get to taste that beer straight from the tanks, before its bottled. It doesn`t get any better than that! Arrive in Prague was like returning home, since I`ve been here before and knew my way around city. Went straight to U Fleku for a beer. Its been six years since my last pint in here: and that stuff was so good it brought tears to my eyes!

Day 68: Prague

First thing in a morning I went to Charles bridge to take a few snapshots before hordes of tourists arrive. Bridge was practically abandoned before 10 AM and I got good pictures. Walked around city and somehow ended up in Letenske Sady which is a local park near Prague castle. Since being so near, I thought I might as well check out if St.Vitus is still as magnificent as it used to be? Well it was. Charm of this church is based purely on gothic architecture and it lacks all those cheesy gildings and ridiculous frescos. And of course I visited U Fleku in a evening...
